Eton College, the most famous boys’ school in the world
Eton College is perhaps the most famous boys’ boarding school in the world, with the boys wearing the iconic morning coats.
An independent boys’ boarding school that can trace its origins back to 1440, Eton counts no less than 20 prime ministers (from Sir Robert Walpole and Boris Johnson), literary and acting greats (like Ian Fleming and Eddie Redmayne) and many a royal (including Princes William and Harry) as former pupils.
The guided tour of Eton will start at 2pm and will last for 90 minutes (14:00-15:30).
The tour covers School Yard, College Chapel, Upper School, Lower School, and the Museum of Eton Life. The focus is on Eton’s historic heart, featuring many of the earliest buildings and objects from the College Collections.
Optional morning 11km walk (about 2.5 hours 11:00-13:30) and picnic near Eton College - just before the guided tour at 14:00.
Windsor Centre circular (5km) followed by Eton via the Thames Path Circular (6km).
We will start with a 5km circular trail in Windsor through Home Park on the Long Walk with views of Windsor Castle, and through the streets of Windsor.
We will then do another circular 6km walk following a section of the Thames path and passing through Eton. This walk will escape the hustle and bustle of Windsor onto the Thames Path. Finally the walk will take us through the heart of Eton where we will have our picnic.
Please note that the price of the train ticket is not included in the tour (about £9 return per person with group discount).
I am planning on taking the train from Paddington to Windsor/Eton Central 9:34 - 10:16 and returning 17:20 - 17:49. The exact time will be confirmed nearer the date.
